President’s Message -Treasure Valley Legion President, Vern Davis

It doesn’t seem like it, but Carroll Coley, Randy Waite, and I are entering into
our fourth year together as the administrators of the Treasure Valley Stars
American Legion Baseball Program. We have had a lot of fun, and feel we have
helped a lot of baseball players make great improvements both on and off the
field.

This season there are two former Stars on the TVCC baseball team. It is nice to
see some local faces wearing the Chukar uniform.

The AA team traveled to Eugene this past season to compete in the Papa’s Pizza Tournament. They will return to that tourney again in ‘09. They made another deep push into the district tourney, but didn’t qualify for a spot in the State tournament. They should return a great nucleus of players again this year, along with the same coaching staff. We are very encouraged for ‘09.

The A team will again play their home games at Fruitland High School. Having the lights was a great improvement. We enjoyed several night games; it is so much cooler when that sun goes down. We were awarded the West Division District Tournament this year. We look forward to showing the rest of the league what we can do when it comes to putting on a great tourney. We will need a lot of help from the parents, but this is a great opportunity to put our best foot forward and raise some needed funds.

We are getting ready for the 4th annual Treasure Valley Invitational Tournament. We have two new teams in the mix this year. LaSalle and Elko will be visiting us. Ontario will be defending their Championship, and Fruitland, Weiser and Vale will round out the local teams. Burns and Fife will fill out the travel teams. I think this will be the best tournament yet.

Plans are being made, to host the second annual Treasure Valley Jr. Invitational. We are hopeful that we will be able to pull this together again, it was a great time last year. Watching those young kids having so much fun playing ball was well worth the effort.

I wish all the players the very best, and I hope they are all as excited as we are.

Sincerely,
Vern Davis

Concessions Coordinator Melody Davis

Her experience with restaurant and food management placed her in the position of concessions manager. She has developed a great menu for the concession stand and enjoys and appreciates the volunteer parents who help keep the costs of the concession down by working shifts. This helps keep the costs of the player fees down.
