MEET THE COACHES
 

Randy Waite

Randy Waite-Vice President of the AA’s Coach Waite is in his first year as Vice President in charge of the AA team. He originally hails from Pendleton, Oregon. He has previously served as Co-Head Coach in 2005, and as Head Coach in 2006, 2007 for the Treasure Valley Stars. Coach Waite has been involved in Legion Baseball in Milton-Freewater for three years and La Grande two years. He has served as an assistant baseball coach in La Grande, Hermiston, and Ontario and as head baseball coach at Weston-McEwen High School. He has been involved as a coach in baseball for 15 high school seasons and involved with legion baseball for eight seasons.

He is currently the head golf and head football coach at Ontario High School; he is also a PE teacher at the school.

He has been married to Darla for 14 years and they have two children, Trampis, age 12 and Ella, age 10, along with two black labs "Touchdown" and "Catcher".
  

  
  
Coach Randy Waite 

Coach Russ Wright


Russ Wright grew up in Rupert, Idaho and played ball at Minico High School. He played college ball
at New Mexico State University. Coach Wright started his coaching career as an assistant for the
University of California at Riverside, under the direction of Hall of Fame coach, Jack Smitheran.
Coach Wright then became head coach for Payette High School and led the Pirates to their first 20
win season. In 1992 he became head coach of his alma mater, Minico High School, and coached
high school and Legion baseball from 1992-2002.

In 1991 he was the assistant coach to Rick Baumann at Treasure Valley Community College. He
returned in 2002 to take over the program. After three successful seasons at TVCC, Coach Wright
decided to devote more time to his family and return to coaching at the high school level. He is
currently serving as head coach of Fruitland High School.
Russ has received many Coach of the Year awards in his career including one National Coach of
the Year honor.

Coach Wright has been coaching high school, Legion, and junior college baseball for over 23 years.
In that time he has compiled over 600 wins.
He resides in Fruitland Idaho with his wonderful wife Andrea, also a Rupert native, and loves to go
camping with their three sons; Will 19, Ryan 16, and Adam 13.

Coach Aaron Sutton-AA


Aaron Sutton played baseball for Fruitland High School in Fruitland, Idaho, where
the team won the state championship in 2002. He attended Treasure Valley
Community College for two years and recently graduated from Western Oregon
University with a degree in Business/Economics. He is beginning his Masters
degree program at EOU this summer. He was selected to the all NWACC first team
and all GNAC first team for baseball at TVCC and WOU. He also was recognized by
ESPN the Magazine as an Academic All American. Was a part of the previous Stars
state championships in 2002 and 2003. Sutton is currently the assistant baseball
coach for the TVCC Chukars.

Coach Matt Mejia


  
Matt Mejia has just finished his senior year this spring at The College of Idaho,
where he plays baseball and studies business. He played for the Treasure Valley
Stars from 2002-2006 and was an assistant coach in 2007. Matt is a 2005 graduate
of Ontario High School where he played football, basketball, baseball, and ran
track. Matt was an All-Conference and All-State performer in 2003-2005 for
baseball. He currently resides in Caldwell.
